Since launching in 2018, Ashler Capital has rapidly scaled to become a cornerstone equities strategy at the firm. Our teams invest using a sector-focused, market-neutral framework, focusing on producing industry-leading returns.
Led by veteran investment professionals with deep industry knowledge, our teams follow rigorous investment processes and benefit from longstanding, trusted relationships with management teams of their covered companies. They focus on understanding each company’s key performance drivers, strategies, leadership and industry trends to take thoughtful risk.
Our teams are led by experienced investment professionals who can build and manage a world-class team at significant scale. We seek original thinkers who have big ideas. We hire talent from a range of backgrounds, focusing on those with a meticulous approach to fundamental research and modeling.

Our investment professionals are trained in the Citadel market-neutral framework by experienced and senior risk takers and have opportunities to learn directly from our head, Matt Simon. Our team is taught how to use deep, fundamental research and the firm’s risk model to invest with conviction.
Matt Simon Head of Ashler Capital
Matt Simon joined Citadel in 2004 as an analyst and took on progressively larger and more challenging roles. Over his first 14 years at the firm, he served as an analyst on Citadel’s Event Driven team, a capital goods analyst on the Global Equities Industrials team, a portfolio manager for the Global Equities Energy and Industrials team and the regional Head of Equities in Chicago.
In 2018, Matt pitched a vision for Ashler Capital: a destination for extraordinary investment talent to work and learn together with unlimited resources to invest at scale. He rapidly built it into one of our firm’s largest investment strategies. He also serves on Citadel’s Portfolio Committee.
Matt began his career as an analyst at Salomon Smith Barney, then worked as an associate on the communications investment team at Madison Dearborn Partners.
He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting with high honors from Lehigh University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Matt serves on the Board of Trustees at the Field Museum and the Board of Directors for the Susan Harris Memorial Fund.
