Citadel is a major participant in commodity markets globally, particularly in North American / European gas, power, and agricultural markets. The Commodities team combines fundamental market expertise with quantitative analytics to identify investment opportunities.
 
Role
 
Citadel Commodities operates an in-house weather research and forecasting team that provides, verifies, improves, and interprets meteorological data and analytics for our various investment teams globally.
 
As a Weather Analyst, your role will comprise applied research into atmospheric predictability, data analysis and visualization, operational weather prediction and communication of weather signals.  Through these activities, you will improve our understanding and prediction of atmospheric variability on weekly to monthly scales.  You will collaborate with the existing team of academically trained meteorologists, as well as software developers and data scientists.

Essential Skills
 
  • Superb educational attainment with a PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field at a leading academic institution
  • Minimum GPA of 3.7 / high 2:1 for bachelor’s degree
  • Comprehensive understanding of at least one of the following: sub-seasonal to seasonal predictability, mid-latitude predictability, synoptic meteorology, tropical variability, numerical weather prediction
  • Excellent Python coding skills for data analysis
  • Good knowledge of statistics
  • Excellent research skills, tenacity to discover and test new ideas
  • Exceptional communication skills: ability to get complex ideas across in simple terms
  • Self-starter. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a demanding and changing commercial environment
 
 Beneficial Skills
 
  • Machine learning experience, especially if applied to weather forecasting
  • Operational forecasting experience, either as an extra-curricular pursuit or in industry
  • Experience working with NWP models and/or post-processing their output
  • Knowledge of sub-seasonal to seasonal teleconnections to mid-latitude weather
  • Experience with object-orientated programming (OOP).
