About the Program
At Citadel, colleagues are encouraged to use their expertise to strengthen the communities where they live and work. Through the firm’s Community Leaders program, which provides nonprofit board matching, governance training and financial support, employees are helping organizations around the world advance their missions and create lasting impact.
For more than two decades, Paul Logan has lived in New York City and watched homelessness worsen amid a persistent housing crisis. He believes meaningful progress requires vision and disciplined execution, rather than simply raising awareness.
As Head of Strategic Planning, Design and Development for the Global Workplace team at Citadel, Paul leads complex real estate initiatives from concept through completion. In 2025, he joined the board of Breaking Ground to use his expertise to help address the city’s housing crisis and put roofs over more New Yorkers’ heads.
Breaking Ground’s mission is to strengthen individuals, families and communities by developing and sustaining exceptional, supportive and affordable housing as well as programs for homeless and other vulnerable New Yorkers. Its vision is simple: Everybody deserves a home.
The organization advances their mission through a two-pronged approach: street outreach and permanent supportive housing. Its teams operate New York City’s largest street outreach program, helping people in Brooklyn, Queens and Midtown Manhattan move from the streets into housing. As the city’s largest developer of supportive housing, Breaking Ground pairs affordable apartments with on-site social services.

Breaking Ground currently manages more than 5,000 units, with thousands more in development, from the adaptive reuse of the Stewart Hotel in Midtown and the Kingsboro Center in Brooklyn to ground-up developments, including a new project in Queens. Ninety-eight percent of Breaking Ground residents who had previously experienced chronic homelessness remain securely housed through this impactful combination of services and housing.
“I’ve lived in New York City for over 25 years, and the need to actively address homelessness in our community is more important now than ever,” Paul says. “Given Breaking Ground’s mission and work, I thought my skills in real estate development, design and construction could be of help as the organization looks to extend its impact.”
As a board member, Paul serves as a director, sits on a newly formed Design and Construction committee, and will be a co-chair of the organization’s annual gala this fall at Waldorf-Astoria. Through his work on the Design and Construction committee, Paul advises the real estate team as projects move from inception, through design and development, and ultimately, to completion, helping to efficiently and responsibly deliver housing.
Before joining the board, Paul had followed Breaking Ground’s work for years and attended its annual fundraising galas. Acutely aware of the homelessness crisis from his daily subway commute, he eagerly accepted the opportunity to join Breaking Ground’s board last year, viewing it as a direct way to personally help tackle these persistent challenges. Through Citadel’s Community Leaders program, he now has a sustained, structured way to help support the organization’s vital mission.
“My experience with the program has been excellent,” he says. “I’m grateful for the opportunity provided by the firm and its leadership to participate so that I can support Breaking Ground. The Community Leaders team has been extremely supportive and does a terrific job leading this initiative for Citadel and its employees.”
