Community Impact: Wei, a Community Leader

About the Program

At Citadel, we encourage our team members to serve their communities as civic leaders. The Community Leaders program enables this support by providing our colleagues with concierge nonprofit board matching, governance training and cash grants.

How Wei Is Making Performing Arts Education Accessible to New Jersey Students

Wei Pan, Head of Research Platform for Commodities, joined the Advisory Council at Wharton Arts in the spring of 2024. Wharton Arts is New Jersey’s largest independent nonprofit performing arts education center, serving nearly 2,000 students across 12 counties. It comprises four core programs: the Performing Arts School, New Jersey Youth Symphony, Paterson Music Project and New Jersey Youth Chorus. All programs include private lessons and group classes, high-level ensembles and educational experiences, plus exceptional performance opportunities for students of all levels, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Wharton Arts’ newly formed Advisory Council is responsible for general outreach, promoting the organization and its mission to broader communities. Wharton Arts relies on private philanthropy to operate, and the Advisory Council members strive to support the organization with fundraising.

As a child, Wei loved music ,but never had the opportunity or financial support to learn how to play an instrument. He found out about Wharton Arts through his friendship with the organization’s artistic director. Wei was inspired by the opportunities, financial support and guidance the nonprofit provides to children, so they can develop creative and cognitive skills and gain an outlet for self-expression.

“The Community Leaders program is so unique because it allows you to involve yourself in a cause that you feel passionate about—and do it meaningfully with the financial support of the firm,” said Wei. “It makes me feel proud to be part of Citadel, to know they genuinely want to contribute to the communities that mean so much to their employees.”
