Job Description

About FlexPower
FlexPower is a leading European power trading firm specializing in short-term power markets. Acquired by Citadel in late 2025, FlexPower combines its deep expertise in green energy markets with Citadel's extensive risk management, technological and analytical capabilities. As we seek to become the most successful investment team in the world, we empower Traders to bring investment ideas to life — identifying opportunities in major financial markets around the world and taking calculated risks. We succeed together in a team environment that facilitates close collaboration between Traders, Quantitative Researchers, and Technologists, working to integrate wind, solar, and battery flexibility into a 100% sustainable and stable grid.
Role Summary
We are seeking exceptional, highly quantitative early career candidates to join our 24/7 trading desk as Graduate Power Traders. Through a structured program, you'll undergo intensive on-the-desk training, learning the intricacies of European physical and financial power markets while collaborating and connecting with senior team members. You will work side-by-side with senior traders and quantitative researchers to optimize a massive portfolio of renewable assets. This is a unique opportunity to launch your career at the intersection of algorithmic trading, financial markets, and the global energy transition.
Your Objectives:
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of a financial market: learn to navigate and execute trades in European day-ahead and intraday power markets (EPEX Spot), understanding the nuances of spot, block, and quarter-hour contracts.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques to trading: support the desk in optimizing short-term power positions for renewable assets (wind/solar) and battery storage systems under dynamic market conditions.
  • Innovate with powerful technology: develop, test, and maintain quantitative models and automated dashboards using Python and SQL to visualize weather patterns, grid data, and pricing signals, using one of the industry's most powerful trading platforms.
  • Manage risk rigorously: assist in analyzing volumetric and pricing risks, helping to refine the systematic hedging frameworks used by the desk.
  • Constantly learn and adapt: collaborate with engineers and researchers to improve our proprietary algorithmic trading and asset optimization platforms.
Your Skills & Talents:
  • Bachelor's, master's or PhD in applied math, engineering, statistical modeling, calculus, computer science, physics, economics, or related disciplines required
  • Passion for power markets and a desire to seize investment opportunities
  • Ability to think about the world systematically and quantitatively, as well as the ability to deal with uncertainty in a rigorous and statistical approach
  • Interest in applying technology and/or quantitative skills to solve complex trading problems
  • Experience with programming, scripting, and/or statistical software strongly preferred
Opportunities may be available from time to time in any location in which the business is based for suitable candidates. If you are interested in a career with Citadel, please share your details and we will contact you if there is a vacancy available.
